What have we done to the Paranormal on social media?
Has it just become this voyeuristic free for all without consequence?
Ghost hunting groups trespassing for the sake of a live feed to attract views.
Or calling 'demon' at anything that is, or is not there?
Is it possible that the pendulum of truth has swung so far that now it is too late to draw it back?
Over the past year or two I have seen an escalation of DRAMA in most shows to do with ghosts.
It seems that finding sweet old grandma Doris is not enough to attract the thirsty viewers who want the thrill of something truly horrifying.
Grandma Doris might still be a ghost, and still be sitting in her favourite chair in her old home that is now occupied by someone else.
She may occasionally move some furniture or you might hear her walking down the hallway but that really doesn't make a show does it?!!!
Grandma is just too sweet and she never growls, bites, pulls the sheets off you or writes crude words on the wall with her own blood.
COME ON GRANDMA!!!!
Grandma doesn't offer enough dark value.
The viewers want sustained sensation and enough suspense so that they are still worrying about it when they lay their heads on their own pillows at night.
I had a incident some time ago where after putting up a few You Tube videos where we had not actually encountered any ghosts on the sites we were exploring.
One person posted a response to these videos and stated that I was a pretty shitty ghost hunter and I should watch Ghost Hunters International to get some pointers from REAL GHOST HUNTERS.
I didn't know whether to laugh or be offended.
So, here I was, over 30 years experience, and ghost hunting almost every single weekend.
I had travelled overseas a number of times to some of the most haunted destinations in the United Kingdom.
I had investigated everywhere, from cemeteries to asylums, to gaols and hotels, pubs, 1000 year old buildings to brand new homes.
And, I can honestly say, none of them were haunted ALL OF THE TIME.
Some places had no ghosts at all.
Are the investigations that we do irrelevant if we do not find a ghost?
Is paranormal TV/You tube not viable if there are no ghosts. Would you watch if the ghost hunters found no ghosts?
I guess not.
Do these shows have to manufacture ghosts to keep them running and coming back season after season? What if they actually don't find as many ghosts as they say that they do?
Do You Tubers and content creators ( and I am one of them) have a duty to tell their viewers the truth or do viewers not care - maybe it's just about the thrill.
How lucky are all of these big name teams to find ghosts, no, DEMONS every time their cameras are on!
Maybe I do need lessons from Zak Bagans or Ghost Hunters International? They seem to have the monopoly on luck.
Or maybe they know a good ghost booking agent?
