Some would say that the only protection people need is against charlatans like 'us' fleecing innocent victims.
Haven't I heard that one a few times!
So firstly start with self protection against nasty, cranky words that do a lot of damage to our souls even before we deal with ghosts.
But aside from THAT type of protection I want to use this blog to talk about some of the different types of personal protection people may prefer to use when going ghost hunting.
Smudging - this is most probably the most well known and used type of protective ritual people will use.
Performed before and after ghost hunting the act of smudging, or using some sort of a smoking ritual is one that has been around for centuries as a purification and protection
If you would like more information about smudging or any of these protection activities please just google - there is so much out there that I wont waste time by repeating it here.
It can be a lucky coin, a photos of a loved one, a lucky shirt that you believe will guard you against negative energies.
You may have a ritualistic cleansing bath when you get home after a ghost hunt. Some people add loads of salt to their died to help them ground ( my preference is a bag of salted chips!!!) or sleep with a salt lamp on in their bed room.
Whatever you choose, of you do choose something or not it's totally your choice. I cannot say that one thing is better than another, although some people will say that you SHOULD do this or that.
Listen to advice but make the choice that feels right for you.
The less scared you feel the better the experience will be and the more open you will be to connect with ghosts.
You just cant do that if you are full of fear or anxious that something awful is going to happen to you.
Never go ghost hunting on your own.
Unless you are extremely experienced and have no other choice I would not advise it. I would also suggest a great deal of research or full knowledge of the back story of what has been happening on the site. I would prefer to see people go in a group of people who know what they are doing and can keep an eye on each other.
If you are distressed or unhappy with the proceedings you should tell someone how you are feeling so that those in charge can take action.
This has just been a very quick rundown.
Please do some googling about protection to find out more information and also check out or talk to other ghost hunting teams if you are interested to head out on a night but might be a little worried about could really happen.
Remember that what goes on on television programs is not what happens in real life in most cases.

What matters is not the idea a man holds, but the depth at which he holds it.

The Evil Eye
The Evil Eye is one of the oldest world-wide superstitions. It dates back over 5,000 years, before civilizations such as the Egyptians and the Mesopotamians. It was widely believed by the ancients that certain evil or spiteful people could cause sickness and death merely by casting their eye on another person.

As you can imagine prayer has been used for thousands of years - certainly some prayers are used for protection so they have a huge amount of energy laid into the words and they can certainly be powerful.
So from this little list you have a lot of choices and I haven't mentioned things that each of us think and believe may be sacred to us for very personal reasons.
