Filming with the Buttsmarn

We still have a full schedule to complete before we finally leave Australia for our working holiday.

Yesterday it was a 12 hour day with Isaac Butterfield and LilDixon to film an episode of Devil's Advocate ( his video series on the paranormal) which was being done at Maitland Gaol.

We introduced the pair to some of the areas of the Gaol that they had not filmed in last time.

We tried to give the experiments over to them both as, in the end THEY are the stars of the show and not us.

So we took them into the SHOWER BLOCK and they spent some time in there alone. They used to night vision cameras to capture their experiences.

We then went into the kitchen space where the most trusted prisoners were confined in a type of solitary area as they worked with the food that was served to the rest of the prison population. They had to be kept separate so that they were not bribed. They also handled sharp instruments and there could be no risk at having those sort of items get into the rest of the prison either.

Here were did get one piece of really great evidence. But you will have to watch his special to see what it was.

Lastly we spent time in 5 Wing - maximum security.

And Isaac was allowed to spend time in the cell that used to (allegedly) be Ivan Milats.

We were also allowed into the cell of George Savvas.

One of Australia's most notorious convicts, former drug lord George Savvas, has been found hanged in his jail cell only hours after authorities uncovered his escape plot with notorious serial killer Ivan Milat. Jail authorities had earlier announced that both men were under the tightest security following their escape plan and a full-scale official inquiry into Savvas' death is now under way.

Savvas, 46, and Milat, 52, were being held in the Maitland maximum- security jail late Saturday when authorities revealed their escape plan and moved Milat in chains to another jail in Sydney. Corrective Services Minister Bob Debus joined with Corrective Services Commissioner LeoKeliher in congratulating jail staff for uncovering the escape plot by using hidden listening devices, cameras and undercover agents. Debus said it was a 'major coup' and attributed it to the tight security arrangements. Corrective Services Assistant Commissioner Ron Woodward said the plan involved overpowering guards and scaling the walls and was to be assisted by outside accomplices providing cars and guns. Woodward said, 'They were prepared to injure or kill anyone who got in their way.' Savvas, who had escaped previously, was serving a 30-year sentence for importing a large shipment of heroin in 1994. Milat is serving a life sentence for Australia's worst serial killings. He was convicted last year of the murders of seven young backpackers who were shot, stabbed and robbed in a state forest near Sydney over a three-year period.

George is the centre of our investigations in 5 Wing when we do our tours and really, he often does not want to have anything to do with us. So it wasn't surprising when he didn't offer up anything more than a few lights on the K2 meter.

It was hot, tiring and frustrating.

Trying to get activity on demand is a game I do  not like to play but we do the best we can and all we can do is often allow the site to speak for itself.

I love the Gaol - I pursued it for 4 years before being allowed to 'trial' a tour and now it is booked out a month in advance all of the time.

But don't expect to see anything just because you turn up. We are still dealing with murderers, rapists and sometimes the worst people that ever lived and they are not going to do anything that they do not want to do.

So, suck it up and just enjoy the experience.

Diary of a Ghost Hunter - The Wallacia Hotel

We were given the opportunity of staying overnight at the Wallachia Hotel in Western Sydney. The hotelwas officially opened on December 3rd 1937. During the Second World War the hotel was used as the Army headquarters for radiopyhysics. I had never been to the Wallacia Hotel before, but, my ghost hunting gal pal Anne, had been there about 5 years ago with a group of Paranormal Investigators that she was working with at the time. We arrived and we were greeted by Craig, the night manager, who welcomed us with open arms.  Craig recognised Anne from the last time she had visited.  Anne asked whether any spooky things had been happening over the last few years. Craig said that he always thought that there was something a little bit weird going on late at night. Over the last few months everything had changed as the Hotel had been very much affected by the COVID lock downs This was a huge hotel with quite an interesting history even though in the whole scheme of things the hotel was only

Lemon Tree Passage Ghost - Local legend is alive and well

Lemon Tree Passage  is a suburb of the Port Stephens local government area in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, Australia, located at the end of the Tilligerry Peninsula and surrounded by the waters of beautiful Port Stephens .  Ever since I can remember there have been a few urban legends about a stretch of highway named Lemon Tree Passage Road. The story begins when a motor bike rider and his pillion passenger died after colliding with a four wheel drive killing both. This seems to be the source of the ghostly lights and apparition. These sort of events don't stay quiet in small townships. Stories spread fast often not ending up like they started. Every so often this urban legend makes a comeback with a number to people tempting fate and poking the ghost rider.             A memorial to Dale Dickens on the Lemon Tree Passage Road / Pic: Robert Mckell Source:The Daily Telegraph The  Lemon Tree Passage ghost  first made headlines in 2010 after drivers cau

Diary of a Ghost Hunter - Lochinvar House in the Hunter Valley NSW

I have just spent a weekend at the historic homestead - Lochinvar House, just outside of Lochinvar in the NSW Hunter Valley. This was, for me, a team bonding opportunity and a chance to get away from worries associated with Covid. It was also where members of my ghost hunting volunteers got to head onto this site before we invited in the public, to check out the stories of ghosts and alleged hauntings. Now, as usual, not all historic houses are haunted. And even more intriguing, it seems that not all historic houses are haunted for all the families that live therein. Many times I have heard this - one family may experience seeing and hearing strange things happening at all hours of the day and night. Yet, another family will move in and.....nothing! And so it is.. Why is it like this? I don't know. Do the ghosts pick us? Lochinvar House was built back in the late 1820's by Leslie Duguid who was granted a enormous amount of land in 1822. He was one of the first land owners in N
